I'm Proud to announce a new project featuring Qawwal devotee Aminah Chishti. I will be joining her starting March 24th, for a 3-week intensive documentary journey in Pakistan. I'm very excited, we are going to bring you some long awaited collaborations featuring the masters of Qawwali music including Dildar Hussain, Tabla player for the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
A bit about Aminah:
"Since 2003 Aminah Chishti Qawwal has studied under the master's of Indian Classical Music. From the vocal expertise of Rit-wik Sanyal, of the Dagar Lineage, to the scientific approach of the BHU Professor Dr. Praven Udhav PHD, of Tabla Mastery. Aminah has found that the study of vocal and tabla was a necessary foundation for her music studies to expand. In practice of the foundation. Aminah began seeking the genre that first captivated her heart to study, Qawwali Music, the devotional trance of Sufi's. Shortly after being initiated into the Chishti Lineage, The support Aminah felt by her Ustad Dildar Hussain and the Culture of Qawwali created the passion to a once heard of independent education, and dove deeper and deeper into the devotion of practice. Now with students from all over the world, Aminah represents Ustad Dildar's first and as of now only female Qawwali tabla player. Performing internationally and now working on her first independent audio/video release, Aminah has not only stepped into holding a crucial bridge for women to be supported in the Islamic world, but the one of a kind experience to see the unseen Pakistan. Cultural exchange has been necessary piece of the beginning of global understanding."
