2009 has been a busy year implementing larger visionary idea;  amongst the bigger shifts happening is a motion to establish Freestyle Movement™ as launchpad/homebase/agency for various creative projects to spawn from, and setting intentions to provide creative direction, and strategy for these projects, and select clients.

I've also been spending  a lot of time in Idaho, training in ThetaHealing™ with founder Vianna Stibal. Discovering deep healing work has been a huge blessing lately, giving me unprecedented clarity and focus when navigating through events in life. And training alongside our allies Tone of Orchid has opened up the creative portal for some exciting new music video collaborations as well, to come very soon.

Last but definitely not least, summer has brought a very special new music collaboration with singer/songwriter Sasha Rose.  While the project is very young, the chemistry and visionary alignment is strong, and we are very excited to spend the winter season building and refining this new collaboration.  We will also be closing out this season with two very special performances at Earthdance and Symbiosis festivals in california.. we hope to see you there!

FreestyleMovement™ Live At The BMOCA

A true power in live events lies in stimulating all the senses with a unified message, to maximize the transmission of that idea. The recent years have shown that to be true with more and more audiovisual collaborations between musicians, performance painters, stage dancers/bboys, and VJ’s. I’ve started playing around with motion graphics and live digital art to bring live shows to a more complete aesthetic, and one of my first gigs happened to be with the Boulder Museum Of Contemporary Arts (BMOCA) for one of their night LITE events. It went off, and opened my eyes to new possibilities, and since then I’ve performed with other acts like Glitch Mobstress Ana Sia, Jantsen, and (GSP). I plan to take this artform a lot further, and am available for booking or planning for live events.

Just got done laying out the official Conscious Alliance 2008 poster for the Re:Creation events hosted by Euphonic Conceptions. The sales of these posters will benefit Conscious Alliance's "Art that Feeds" hunger relief program, and will be available starting next week right here in Boulder for their show on the 28th featuring Bonobo. The Conscious Alliance is a non-profit group that organizes food drives at arts & music events, and raises awareness of hunger issues worldwide. Freestyle Movement wholeheartedly supports humanitarian work; we are proud to aid hunger relief in any way we can. With the weather starting to get warmed up here, be on the look out for a few more designs hittin' the press very soon...

I will be performing love live visuals all this weekend with Zilla Crew's end of the year gathering featuring EOTO, Sporque, Vibesquad, and Ooah for some Nasty Beats to vibe to in Boulder. Tonight I'm performing a VJ Set at the FoxTheater, which I am very excited to present some new motion graphics I've been working on. For those of you that showed up to see GSP perform at the sold out Trilogy, you may have seen a glimpse of this developing act, but I've been working overtime to turn a grip of new material since the last show that i'm excited to drop. Hope to see you there !

My good friend and talented wordsmith Souleye asked me to prepare a custom piece for his  lady. Thrilled at the project, I decided to bring him into the creative process a little bit by having him submit some linguistic inspiration. He proceeded to write a heartfelt rhyme about her, which i included in the painting as well as for inspiration. I even had a chance to hand-deliver it on our last excursion to Steamboat Springs. Souleye is by far the most energy filled and nomadic performer I know, him & Jen are performing/celebrating the New Year in Fiji right now, I can't wait to hear the tales of their journey!

We just touched back down in Boulder after a helluva time in Steamboat.. The show went really well, taking place at club Wired, it marked a lot of new hopes and new beginnings.. Energies were really potent and positive throughout the night, and people were very receptive to the frequencies we transmitted as a crew. It was a holiday party and birthday party for kelly (!!!) and pretty much everyone there was tight-knit. The night started off with a mellow blend of Glitch, Soul Hop and Downtempo by sAne, flowed into GSP's flavorful originals. Sleepyhead then turned the corner with his grimy dancefloor thrashers. MC Souleye flowed in and out of everybody's set, showing everyone mad love and appreciation for their presence throughout the night. By far some of the best time spent with family all year, many thanks to Souleye & Jen for the Hospitality and Generosity..

I just finished a new painting for Beezer and his climbing shop Half-Moon outfitters in South Carolina. He came down for the Outdoor Retailer show in Salt Lake City back in August, where he saw Todd and I doing performance paintings. After talking some more, he asked me if i could recreate the first piece in a new light.. I welcomed his input, which was to replicate his state flag in my perspective, and reworked the idea on a new canvas for him.. Think he'll be stoked?

Ubuntu Fundraiser for South African Orphans: $4K Raised!!!

A few months ago, I received a heartfelt letter from a friend who recently returned from working with children in an orphanage in South Africa. She organized a benefit event happening this saturday, and asked Freestyle Movement to come support in any way possible, so I put together a special Video set featuring images from the children themselves.

Our collective efforts helped raise around U$D 4400.00 !!!!

Not to mention that the gathering was a great celebration of like-minded individuals coming together for a worthy cause.

Here are the details on the orphanage that we are contributing to.

Hello all:)

I have recently returned to Boulder from living and going to school in Cape Town, South Africa. While I was down in Cape Town I was volunteering at an 40 child orphanage called Emasithandane in a township outside of Cape Town called Nyanga. At Emasi I taught an 'after school' class for the children ages 7-14 who lived at Emasi as well as neighborhood kids. These children were incredible. They came to the after school program on their own accord and were always so excited to learn. The townships of South Africa are extreme and these children have a resilience that is deserves to be addressed. Emasi along with another orphanage called Bapumelele, which has 100 children, are supported by a non-profit here in the states called CHOSA (children of South Africa) as well as a few other programs working with the children of the townships.

To learn more about CHOSA- I encourage you all to check out their website www.CHOSA.org.

When I left South Africa and the children of Emasi, I knew that I wanted to help in some way- and low and behold a fundraiser for CHOSA was manifested with the amazing support of the Boulder community.

The fundraiser is called UBUNTU- I am because we are.

I started a new studio piece on the road in Cali.. finished in Boulder, it began at Smokey’s house in Sebastopol, where I learned a great deal about crystals and their frequencies. The title of the piece suggest a new concept of language I played with, coded within the painting in a similar fashion to the knowledge encrypted in the renowned Lemurian Crystals. I Even ended up picking up my own Unicorn Horn from his private stash ..

An old on but a good one, I worked on this piece with TeeBee in between trips last summer. It hung as part of TeeBee's solo installation at the Ins+allation shop. Being out of town, I missed the opening and never got a chance to see the finished piece before it sold but I'm glad TeeBee got a picture of it!

Here's an update on some new styles I've been developing in the painting realm. The first is a portrait of a tree I met in beautiful Yosemite Valley. I started the composition alongside my friend Kris D in his San Francisco Studio. The other I crafted for one of the monthly art openings at the Joy Engine. The two pieces can be considered gateways into some new concepts I've been playing around with.. .. More on that soon, maybe a series or two, but definitely expect the thought to elaborate.

I got a chance to hang out in San Francisco a bit this summer. My last trip there consisted of working on some new paintings at my homie Kris Davidson’s downtown studio. Kris’ does all kinds of creative things, including performance paintings with bands, most notably Sound Tribe Sector 9 with whom he’s traveled with for a number of years. Our week consisted of studio sessions, rooftop sunrises, and collaborative design work on a show flyer for a Bonobo Show, and a cover for a mix CD by bay area Producer James Christopher. Look out for more in-depth thoughts/projects on Live/Performance painting in the future..

One of my old homies from back in New York approached me about developing his professional music identity. We started with a photoshoot, we we turned into show posters, business cards, and cover for his demo. Mike is graduating from Eastman Music School, and was just recently featured in the Rochester International Jazz Festival. Check out his music here, and a special audio collaboration, arranged by The Mechanik of GSP and yours truly. The beat is by the infamous Dr. Dre, and the whole tune can be checked out on the FsM MYSPACE page. Stay tuned for more audio collaborations, a new website and more very soon..

Mid August this year TEEBEE & I had a chance to rep some live styles at the OR (Outdoor Retailer) event in Salt Lake City. The folks at Timberland organized it, I flew straight from Kris D's Studio in SF, and I was completely psyched to throw down some live painting for a change. TB rocked some really dope transfer pieces, and on the last day (four days) we hosted a party at which I Juggled a live VJ and DJ set simultan- eously while TEEBEE screen printed shirts, all live .. fresh! We also auctioned off all the work we created that weekend and donated the proceeds to charity. It was definitely good to see some of my homies in the climbing world representin' their respective projects, including my friends at SoILL Cryptochild, Urban Climber, and Evolv . I also got a chance to meet and chill with Joe Kinder, one ofTimberland's other sponsored athletes.. While the gathering was fun in its many ways, four long days spent inside a stale convention center had me ready for my next destinations; a stint on the East Coast to see the parents in NY and Edward Hopper's Museum show in Boston. Before I knew it I was back in Boulder getting ready for my next adventure; the infamous PLAYA at the Burning Man Gathering...

I recently just put together another Music Identity package for a friend. The idea here was to tend towards a simpler, sleek profile with a faint edge. I drafted up two separate logos for both his solo performing act and his more experimental moniker, Kid Akimbo. The work was put out in T-shirts, business cards, and a new website that I worked on with Todd from Cypher 13.

During my last stay in the Bay, I also got to catch up with my friend Dakini, super talented lyricist in the all female crew Goddess Alchemy Project. North Bay based, these girls promote awareness in the feminine self, conscientious spirituality, and even fair trade collaboration with Indigenous tribes of South America. They rock. We headed up to Tilden WIlderness where we hiked through the beautiful Eukalyptus forests, shot some photos, and talked of visions underneath the lush canopy. Everything glowed and breathed with life; every corner had something delicate to admire. Homegirl was even rocking one of my palm tree shirts that she customized! Fresh! Short but sweet, the trip left me filled with excitement for my next destination; the Outdoor Retailer Event in Salt Lake City....

This is the first ever jewelry collab I did with my friend Sarah [Paradigm Shift} out of New Brunswick, Canada. Her style involves intricate wire weaves around delicate mineral specimen. This collaboration put me in charge of designing a belt buckle and photographing the finished piece. The latter enticed me to revisit the techniques I learned from my apprenticeship at Cruchon Photo Studio last Fall in Switzerland. To all the Crystal fans out there here is a more detailed list of the raw materials found in the piece, “Sequestered Dissertation”, the piece and more of her available work can also be viewed on Paradigm Shift's website.
Stats:
2.7 x 2”
Sterling/Fine Silver and 22K Red Gold, Tsavorite Garnet crystal, Spessartine Garnet crystals (x4), Faceted Tsavorite Garnets (x2), Faceted Spessartine Garnets (x3), Moldavite, Fire Agate, Tourmaline

Jewelry Photography On the Road

On my second West Coast Trip, I was offered an opportunity to shoot the work of several jewelry designers, all members of what they call the Talisman Collective. Using any combination of wrapping wires and metalsmithing to interlock various precious minerals and gemstone into flowing compositions, they create in ery essence, one of a kind amulets to sell at festivals and galleries nationwide. The most interesting challenge when it came to photograph these pieces was how to handle subtle color changes in gold wire and portray correct gemstone luminance; I learned how to shoot collector watches in Switzerland, but I didn’t have the luxury of a lighting studio on the road.. After a little adaptation, I’m pretty happy with the way the shots came out. Here is just a small sample..

After barely having returned from a photography internship and climbing trip in Switzerland and Spain, I decided to embark on another journey, filled with tales of tall unclimbed boulders in the heart of the Ozark Mountains.. Leaving from the homebase in Upstate NY,my buddy Rob and I linked up with some homies in SoILL, and we rocked it to Horsheshoe Canyon Ranch (HCR where we unearthed some amazing boulder problems there. I shot stills the whole two weeks we were there, and pitched the story to Urban Climber. Two Months later they made it a feature story, even showcased me as a contributor with cover mention! Just a few spreads long,(it was a total of 6 pages) notably revealing some sick First Ascents by Jason Kehl, Justin Wood, and Matt Wilder. It was also a great chance to feature my photos nationally, and to practice storyboard layouts for future Projects.

Confess/Consider Solo Painting Show by Adrien sAne

Posted by sAne 1056 days ago under Art

My first solo painting show took place on friday, March 9th 2007 at Joy Engine Gallery in Boulder. The turnout was great, the place was consistently packed 'til 2 am, people came from all over to enjoy the fresh sights and sounds that I arranged for the evening. Props to GSP (The Mechanik, Bone, & Freddy) who arranged remixes just for the show, and to Jantsen & DJ Technic 9 who held the vibe down after them. The show stayed up for a month, and most of them have found new homes by now. While I was in Europe, TB approached me about first having a show (fall 2006), but my erratic travel habit didn't land me back to my studio until Mid-january - just in time to start school full-time... I pulled it off somehow, 20 new paintings in 5 crazy weeks, themed and flowing on recycled cabinet doors. I really gave what felt like everything at the time... I really feel blessed and thankful it went off so well, and am honored I was extended the opportunity to show my work by the folks at JoyEngine/Cypher 13.

Formally, I’d like to thank everyone who pitched into making the night happen: GSP, for use of a studio/place to crash for a month; crucial. The Mechanik Freddy, and Bone synchronized their set to my work and I to theirs, and even remixed some tracks I passed for them to pick through... now that's a fresh take on audiovisual art! Thank you Jantsen, Lynx, and Technic 9 who also came and threw down the fresh beats. The whole Cypher 13 posse who helped with the crazy install and last minute scrambles, and finally everyone else who came through to support, and everyone who kept giving me encouragement when I was pullin' studio all nighters straight to morning classes.

Introducing the Body Tension Project

BTP

Freestyle Movement started as a concept years ago, when I was trying to figure out the meaning of sAne, and the journey I was enbarking on. I found that my ideas not only translated well into my own art, but that I in essence, had stumbled upon something that could encompass much more than a personal path. Influenced by traditional Hip Hop roots, and contemporary takes like Jeff Chang’s “Can’t Stop Won’t Stop” I realized that we as members of this “post- Era” with countless subgenres of already underground arts, need to document our own creative process collectively, from within the communities, in order to ensure accurate transmission of our intentions. This is what the term “body tension ” will eventually translate into a collaborative documentary that will take manifest into multisensory information, including a series of collector books and audio compilations, filled with the freshest testimonials from today’s underground channels.

Jason Kehl at Parc Guell

While I was working at the Photo Studio in Geneva I got an email from Jason Kehl (Cryptochild).. He told me he'd been staying in Spain, and that I should try and pay him a visit if I could. Inevitably I jumped on a plane, and before it hit me I was cruising around Barcelona and its surrounding region in a hooptie, climbing Boulders, and taking a ton of photographs of the beautiful region. Hangin' out with Jason was rad, he's super creative, and a very experienced and dedicated climber, make sure to check out his website.. I got some really good footage of the architecture or the region, as well as some good shots of Kehl doin' his thing. The photo of Jason below was published in Urban Climber Magazine’s February issue, and a a few others can be found in my Photo Portfolio.
