New Works on the Way with Root STRUCTURE
01.30.08
We've been busy this month, hardly a moment to blog with so many projects un the way for the new year. One great manifestation of last year was finding a great new vessel for change and experimentation through developing our work through textiles. My very talented co-designer Akayate has been working overtime with me to develop our top secret, super-exlusive prototypes for our clothing line Root Structure. Part of our project relates to shifting the way people look at and treat textiles, so we started playing around with the idea of presenting fabric in a fine arts setting. One of our goals is to collect textiles from indigenous people around the world, and to breathe much neededfair-trade economy into their hands, and also introducing these issues through as many different settings as possible.

sAne.. FAMOUS ??
01.30.08
Well Kinda. I was just checking out the latest entry on the JoyEngine Blog when I saw a photo of one of my old mixed media pieces that was published like 2 years ago in Illiterate Magazine.. straight ripped out of the mag and taped to the inside of a shitter in.. Arvada!? Seemed to good to be true, so I hit the boys up, and sure enough, SBD recognized it during one of his bathroom trips at Shitty Kitten's Art opening..
Looks like eye level if you're sitting down.. hell yeah!
Rad New Clothing Steeze By S. Ting (NYC)!

We just recently came accross this interesting photoshoot of new designer line out of New York. Featuring various hound's tooth wools and fine cashneres, this eriess boasts minimal yet well-placed design elements. Especially interesting were the asymmetrical sleeve designs and stud patterning. Check out these super-fresh illustrations for the Goblin Dept by Alejandro Fuentes (LosFokos.com). I really love the attention to detail, and the way he blends the photography with his rich illustrative style; very organic, with a clever array of intermixed foreign objects. Via Behance...

Vagabond Life: Nomadic Photography
01.07.08
Check out this interesting collection of lifestyle shots from thie feed in spain. Featuring a view of this sort of post-nomadic, train-Hopper culture that is a modern migration of youth driven to stray from settling for their normal surroundings. All duly bitten by the travel bug ourselves. we can appreciate the rawness expressed in these photographs, and relate to the experience of finding ourselves in these transitional spaces. Titled "La Vida De los Vagabundos Americanos", it portrays at once a very realistic, and slightly humorous take on American Vagabond Culture. Although sparse on words, this feature parallels many of the concepts the FsM is exploring in audiovisual culture, through the Body Tension Project, and some of the scenes seem almost fitting enough to please both National Geographic and Dov Charney's provocative advertising campaign for American Apparel.
Anyway, nuff ramblling, check out the rest of the vagabond shots HERE, and take a look at the rest of the website too, it's got an interesting selection of topics.. via Up Against The Wall.

New Studio Painting For Jen & Soul Eye
01.04.08
My good friend and talented wordsmith Souleye asked me to prepare a custom piece for his lovely lady, JenJen, for the holiday season. Thrilled at the project, I decided to bring him into the creative process a little bit by having him submit some linguistic inspiration. He proceeded to write a heartfelt rhyme about her, which i included in the painting as well as for inspiration. I even had a chance to hand-deliver it on our last excursion to Steamboat Springs. Souleye is by far the most energy filled and nomadic performer I know, him & Jen are performing/celebrating the New Year in Fiji right now, I can't wait to hear the tales of their journey!
